Now I have listened to the whole audio book. A couple of nights in bed with ipod and Barak. Barak is a Muslim name, he says. I had not thought about that. Once a Norwegian journalist told me, "of course your mail is finished in spam, you have such a foreign name. " Another time a woman, when Eirik was 2 months told me: "Eirik now is really an immigrant name". She did not know that the surname is Høydalsvik and it is immigrant, yes, but from a deep fjord. I write about me and what the book has made me to recall. Big famility back home, and family conflicts back home too. I will look at US with different eyes. Is there still the American dream?

I have a new love. I have a new preferred book. Like all the good things, I have found it by chance. On Pirat ebay in fact. It is the audio book by Barak Obama, the dreams from my father. When Obama entered the White house I was too busy with my new house, with the Bush fires in Victoria, I did not count how many people came into Washington, nor I realized that the father of Barak had left him when he was 2. I did not know anything about Barak Omaba. I listen to the book and I cry. The grandmother too young to be called grandma. The second divorce of the mother. The young sister. The smoking of sigarets and not only. A text that is clear and ernest and comes directly to my heart. I still have 5 of the 7 disks. I have to buy the book. I love Barak Obama.

I went into a butchery shop yesterday. Meat is very good at super market too, but I entered this shop by chance. Suddenly I felt like in Pisa in the late 60's when women were standing and talking with each other and to the butcher. It came to my mind that in the 60'sthe butcher (Macellaio) wife, who was not a butcher, was called La Macellaia (the female Butcher). Should I come to Turramurra to think about Pisa in the late 60'? Am I always in the wrong place? Or in the wrong time? Is there any medicine against acute homesickness and past-sickness? Let us try with Australian red meat and red wine. Very good indeed the Australian meat. Good butchery in North Turramurra.

once at was at a meeting in Trondheim. there was a professor who was talking about her experience as a researcher in Afganistan. she has studied and worked there in a project for local women. after ten years, she realized there were important things she could not understand. it happens I have this feeling. it happens more and more often. it happens in Norway. it happens in Italy as well. it is even stronger when I am with people I have been knowing for my whole life. I cannot understand what they say and what they do. this does not imply I should not try, to understand. Here in Australia I work against the urge to generalize. Many years abroad have made me allergic of those sentences like "All Norwegian are cold" "All Italian are not organized". Here in Australia I have this feeling of being in a English colony. But what do I understand about England and their colonies? I was not even born in the time of the British empire. But do they really need to have the queen on the coins?
I wish I have noted down the name of that woman who talked about Afganistan, it was a Winter Day at Prinsen Hotel during a Tronett meeting. Was her name Berit?

L'ebook e' un troiaio. ebook Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu! Se a 17 anni invece che lo Spectrum avessi comprato l'ebook adesso sarei una contadina.
Mio ultimo messaggio a Sony
The new ebook functioned well for a couple of days and then started to
behave strangely again until it stoppedas it did the first one.
I wish to return the ebook to Sony and get my money back. I am so
frustrated. I live in Australia and it has costed me a lot of money to
send the ebook back to US.
Let me write down my frustrations about the ebook hoping they will help
Sony to fix the problems and engineer a better device.
Let me say that I am an IT professional, used to work with technology
since the 80's, . I want to say that the Sony ebook, even when it works
as it should disappoints me for its design choices. But here it is my
fault that I bought a device which I had only tried once in the UK. I
live now in Australia where it is not possible to buy Sony ebooks. There
must be a reason for that.
The PC interface works only on Microsoft and being a mac and/or Unix
user I have to borrow other people PC's to use the ebook. In addition to
that, the PC interface looks like an old fashioned software application.
It is for example impossible to insert the @ character without cutting
and pasting it from other programs. On the PC I am using, an ASUS with
Vista OS, it is simply impossible to insert a @ by pressing ALT GR @.
PDF and text format are not working properly. One of the main reasons
for buying the ebook is that I do not want to print documents.
I have to use the reset tool several times. Sometimes, after a reset,
the device works for a while. It works with Sony books, never with pdf
or text.

I bought my ebook in December. It stopped working in early January and I had to send it back to US. I was very enthusiastic about my ebook. I thought I could read without carrying books around. I am somehow very disappointed. It is not intuitive at all. It is like the kind of technology you had in the 80's that you had to read instructions only to charge it. I am of course fascinated by the fact I can download books like those in project
GutenbergI have started reading War and Peace which I started and gave up almost 30 years ago. It is difficult to read text and pdf with the ebook. It is difficult to use the application provided by Sony. First it runs only on MS platform. Then it looks so old. I am wondering why Sony has realeased such software and why they do not understand they should be happy to gain money by selling the piece of hardware and let us read what we want to read.
May be I bought it too early. There must be a reason why it has not come to Australia at all.
Let us hope I enjoy
War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy.
