Oslo based artist and teacher, Aase-Hilde Brekke breaths a deep spirituality into the art world. I congratulate my friend Aase-Hilde.

The LED on the gown displays a beautiful yellow color to symbolize day light. The LED switches to a deep blue night color and again to yellow. Day after day. By moving my arms, jumping, walking, falling down I alter this cycle. The more I stress the less I am able to observe the cycle of life. I cannot really observe myself. I need somebody else to tell what they see on my gown LED. Beautiful or less beautiful patterns can arise while I busy myself. These patterns do not always match the lilac color of my gown. I understand more and more the programs that govern my gown but I do not fully understand the relationships between my movements and its effects. I needed the help of both my student Hallgeir to write the code and my friend, fashion design Urd, to find my unique lilac Lilypad gown, and I need Daniela who believes in science, to observe my gown and its program to find the motivation to change. I do not fully understand the details of acceleration but I am aware I will. I know that the beautiful cycle of yellow and deep blue will come again and again. I started this blog five years ago, after TMM2004. 5 years = 6 matchmaking festivals. I have been at 7 festivals, all except the very first one. The cooperation between science, technology, research, and art is something we need. And it is something difficult that the more you work with the more you understand how difficult it is on many levels. Espen Gangvik (teks) has managed to organize 8 art and technology festivals that have invited to Trondheim names from Stelarc to Roy Ascott and Eduardo Kac, just to name few of them. This year, the gran finale, with electroboutique the Russian artists Roman Minaev, Alexei Shulgin, Aristarkh Chernyshev who play and make us play, reflect, and  laugh with technology inspired art objects.

Beautiful, timely, and intelligent exibition. Congratulation and good luck with future activities.

today it rains. I have already been at Eirik's school twice, once to talk to the teacher and once to pick him up to go to the hospital for the esofagous check. Everything is good.

I publish another Arduino program, explained here

a sketch with four differents light effects plus the start-up effect. The start-up effect is all three colors are on. The program passes from one effect to the next one by checking whether the button is pressed before repeating the effect (in some cases it also checks the button while the effect is running) The 4 effects are: 1. lights the 3 color in the row quickly back and forth without pausing: R - G - B - G - R - G - B - G - R ... 2. lights a couple of color then the third one then pause and continue with a different couple: RG-B-pause, RB-G-pause, GB-R-pause 3. lights the 3 different couples of colors (RG, GB, RB) one after the other and pause at the end RG(=yellow) - GB(=cyan) - RB(=magenta) - pause 4. lights a first color, then a second one, then lights off the first one, then lights on the third, off the second, on the first, off the third, and continue without pausing The basic time unit for the effect and some multipliers have been checked so that the effects can be followed easily

yes we can program (read with the accent on the last a of program as it were a French word)

The vision of ArTe is disseminating IT issues to Norwegian and International teen-agers (13-15) with focus on creativity, cooperation, and openness of processes and content.

Arduino is one of the possible tools we have chosen for Researcher Night 2009 to work toward our vision.

At Researcher Day we will use scratch.

- Hallgeir

code available here

blink is here

//The pin number we use

int pin = 10;

//Delay between changes

int d = 1000;

//Set the mode for the pin number to output

void setup()

{

  pinMode(pin, OUTPUT);

}

void loop()

{

  //Turn the output signal for pin 10 ON

  digitalWrite(pin, HIGH);

  delay(d);

  //Turn  the output signal for pin 10 to OFF

  digitalWrite(pin, LOW);

  delay(d);

}

I started with a visit at the ars electronica center. At the third floor, I see some of the u19 free style computing winner artworks. I make an appointment with Susi Windischbauer, the producer of u19. I quickly prepared a short interview guide:
which are your success factors?
How many submissions did you get this year?
Do you have any constraints about technology?
Who works on the project?

Susi is nice, with intelligent blue eyes. She tells me that u19 does not have categories. She tells me about their collaboration with the Ministry of culture. They send communication about u19 to all schools in Austria. They give feedback to each submission. Their jury is composed by 5 persons. It is a good idea to have a journalist in the jury, she tells. They have a cooperation with MB 21 in Germany and Bugn & Play in Switzerland. They also cooperate with C3 in Hungary. I say that I am interested in cooperating, she passes my contact to a Danish guy, Leif, who organizes among other things www.fagolympiade.kk.dk. Susi believes open source is important. U19 organizes open source workshops for students.

I think of ArTe, of course. ArTe is my heart project. I am supposed to write papers, teach courses, and write project applications. I do all this but on a Sunday at ars electronica I always think of ArTe and have a lot of ideas about how to present at Research Days and so on.

In the afternoon I attend history talk 6 about art makers and curators, with the founders if ars electronica. They speak German and I have the translator in my head phone, I listen and dream that I also will be able to follow my dreams. That I meat people I trust, that I keep trusting people. Ars electronica thinks globally and locally and acts globally and locally. The public is important. Music is more important than I thought. At the same time you should go beyond music.

The Prix Forum interactive art award is interesting but not something I will remember. Beautiful concert at Lentos at 1930 and the Große Konzertnacht continues at Bruckenhaus. I come to my room before the end. I have absorbed more culture today than in average culture 3 years as a small children mother and I wanted to write it down.

To say I love ars electronica is something limiting. Why did I wait 30 years before coming?
